What Is Electronic Fingerprinting?

Electronic fingerprinting, also known as Live Scan, is the process of capturing fingerprints using a fingerprint scanner, as opposed to rolling fingerprints using the traditional ink method. Generally, Electronic fingerprints are transmitted to agencies like the FBI, FINRA, or state-regulated agencies. Electronic fingerprints may also be archived with PrintScan and used to generate fingerprint cards or create EFT (Electronic Fingerprint Transmission) files. There is no ink involved in providing electronic fingerprinting service.

PrintScan staff members use our custom-built Live Scan systems to roll your fingerprints across a glass screen and capture them electronically. This screen captures the detail and sequence of your fingerprints and displays them on the computer screen. Electronic fingerprinting is a preferred method of fingerprint capture for most of our clients.

The advantage of Electronic fingerprinting provides a much cleaner and clearer image of your fingerprints and reduces the chance for prints to be rejected for poor quality. Being fingerprinted electronically does not guarantee your fingerprints will be accepted, but it significantly reduces the chances of a rejection.
