Understanding SWFT: Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission

The Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission (SWFT) is a specialized web portal designed to streamline fingerprint submissions for individuals requiring background investigations. This is commonly mandated for security clearances by entities such as the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Department of Defense (DOD), National Industrial Security Program (NISP), and other pivotal Federal government agencies. By opting for an Electronic Fingerprint Transmission (EFT) file via SWFT or allowing PrintScan to handle your electronic fingerprint submissions, you can bypass the traditional method of mailing paper fingerprint cards. This not only saves time but also significantly accelerates your clearance procedure.

Companies with clearances, as registered in the Industrial Security Facilities Database, have the capability to forward electronic fingerprint files directly to the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) for applicants under the National Industrial Security Program (NISP). At PrintScan, we employ FBI-certified tools and software to produce electronic fingerprint records that meet all compliance standards.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q.

What's the purpose of SWFT in the OPM process?

A.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) serves as the investigative service provider for the Department of Defense (DoD). They forward fingerprints to the FBI to obtain results from record and name checks related to background investigations. SWFT streamlines this process, offering a more efficient method for Industry and ensuring traceability of electronic fingerprint submissions.

Q.

When is the ideal time to send the electronic fingerprint file via SWFT?

A.

For optimal results, you should submit the electronic fingerprint file through SWFT right after releasing the e-QIP to the Personnel Security Management Office for Industry (PSMO-I).

Q.

How long can we retain the electronic fingerprint file after submitting through SWFT?

A.

After submitting through SWFT, companies can retain the electronic file until the FBI results appear in JPAS as a special agreement check (SAC). However, it should not be held for more than 120 days.

Q.

Is it mandatory for a cleared facility to have fingerprint scanning devices for SWFT usage?

A.

No, it's not mandatory. Cleared facilities don't need to own or operate fingerprint scanning devices to use SWFT. Any cleared facility is eligible to obtain a SWFT account.
